Congratulations to the New Yorker

Anyone who knows anything knows that the New Yorker has the most stringent fact-checking system in the industry. So it comes as no surprise that Bill "No Spin" O'Reilly has no stomach for them. An article in this week's Talk of the Town has garnered them a spot on Bill's black list.

I hope this post gets me on the list

Republicans:
Some are mean...
Some are corrupt...
Some are just plain crazy

First it was Pat Roberson calling the wrath of God down on Dover, PA.

Now Bill O'Reilly has flipped out beyond imagination. A pretty tough feat considering he has claimed that his boycott of France had totally wrecked their economy; has insulted and abused a 9/11 victim's family; has continued to sexually harass his radio co-host after settling a sexual harassment law suite with a former producer at his TV show.

Earlier this week he invited terrorist to attack our country's most beautiful city-San Francisco-and destroy a monument to it's firefighters. But that's not the end of the story. After several bloggers took exception to this, he announced on his radio show that he would be posting a McCarthy-style enemies list on his website.

I hope this post gets me on the list.

Q: How can we downplay the Plame case indictments that are expected soon?

A: Make our own news.

You couldn't make up stuff like this. Bush nominee attacked by conservatives?
Will this trump the Fitzgerald indictment for the front page?
Stay tuned....

Manchurian Mum by way of Maine

Barbara Bush's "let 'em eat cake" comments reminded me of Angela Landsbury in The Manchurian Candidate. Sweet kind lady on the outside...crafty and mean on the inside. As vile, cruel and heartless as she was I don't think commie agent Landsbury was ever stupid enough to reveal her true self in public.

Another Talking Point

Chertoff told Meet the Press that all the Tuesday morning papers said that NOLA had dodged a bullet!!! Soon the whole right-wing noise machine started parroting this nonsense. I think Al Franken found one paper with that hed...in Grenada...Chertoff sure goes far and wide to get his news....

New Talking Point: Blame the Messenger

White House spin machine:
1. We're not playing the blame-game
2.But if we were finger-pointing it would be toward local and state authorities
3.Or the victims
4.Oh yeah...we almost forgot to blame the media.

Chertoff Draws Fire on Briefing - New York Times

This sums it up pretty well

"Bush won because he had a double-digit lead on the question of who was going to keep us safer.
Well, Katrina shoots that idea straight to hell, doesn't it? And Democrats should make clear once and for all just how illusory the president's purported strength, leadership, and steely-eyed resolve really are."

Rove must Go

That Karl Rove lacks integrity is not news. Frankly as a political operative he has done what he is expected to do. But if he wants to continue to cast aspersions on half of the nation and using the tragedy of 9/11 for political gain he needs to do it as a Republican partisan or private citizen not as a paid official of the federal government.
On the other issue If he is guilty of exposing a CIA agent then he needs to go to jail.

Texas Jammerfest

The Lone Star Chapter of the Windjammer Vacation Cult had a meeting in Galveston last weekend. Twelve jammers met at the Galveston Island Hilton for drinks, dinner and a sunset cruise on the Captain Kidd out of Kemah.
Seaweed covered the beaches but that didn't stop us from having a mid-morning beach party complete with rum swizzles, pain killers and various other refreshments not usually associated with mid-morning. There's a trip report from Tom on the Windjammer Flotilla. (scroll down 'til you see the word "WOW".)

There are pictures here and here. A third set is coming soon we hope.

Friday 4:30 Story

Read your Saturday paper. If the government wants a story kept low key they'll release it on Friday afternoon. Here the pentagon aasures us that a Koran was never flushed. What a relief...jeers to Newsweek... oh but wait there might have been some other form of desecration...oh my!!!!
White House calls it isolated incidents and Scott McClellan still hasn't retracted his assertion that Newsweek is the major cause of instability in the Muslim world.
Nice headline in the story below, huh? The story is about the abuse but the headline focuses on the the White House downplaying the report.

Yoda Fu part 2

I guess we knew all along that Yoda would get his ass kicked and have to go into exile but I was still disappointed. Chewbacca wasn’t on screen long enough to be worthwhile let alone eat a Filet O’ Jar Jar sandwich. The opening scene was cool with the rescue of Palpatine in the middle of the space battle.

Not enough: Chewbacca, Darth Vader (in costume with James Earl Jones' voice)

Too Much-Anakin/Padme dialog (I laughed out loud at one point. Maybe it was meant to be a comedy?)

Over all- Didn’t suck
Best of the Prequels but that's not saying much.

Yoda-Fu

So far I've heard that it doesn't suck although it doesn't rock either. I still haven't heard whether Chewbacca has roast JarJar for dinner or not. Feel free to post your opinion in the comments. But I'll allow only 3 ratings:
sucked
didn't suck
rocked.

In my opinion that's the only thing anyone needs to know about a movie.

News of the Day

Lest you think the Newsweek hubub is proof of a liberal media bias, remember that the writer of the "Koran in the Can" story is the same guy who broke the Lewinsky story.

Media Matters story here

and in a rebuttal to Media Matters here's a story from The Nation. Though is critical of the MM story it still makes the point that like him or not Isikoff has gone after all kinds of public officials regardless of party or idealogy.
